Ahah! I got to another ‘daily/weekly practice’ today! Sweet. Probably spent a little to much time on these, but totally worth it to get a better grasp on portraiture.
Today, Rachel Weisz was my inspiration - originally I chose her so I can do a portrait of Princess Luthien from Tolkein’s Silmarillion. But as I was doing the top image, another quote from the book came to mind:
But he (King Thingol) came at last to a glade open to the stars, and there Melian stood; and out of the darkness he looked at her, and the light of Aman was in her face.
It fit perfectly! So the bottom image is Queen Melian right at that moment, and they see each other for the first time. *laughs*

Weekly Sketch 10.16.14 by nenuiel
Today’s screencap practice!
The idea is to take a screencap (or other art piece), do a sketch from it, then do a concept piece based on the lessons learned from the initial drawings.
This one is featuring Arwen and Aragorn from The Fellowship of the Ring (top) and the piece inspired is a depiction of the battle between Huan and Draugluin from the Silmarillion.

Next screencap practice sketch!

This one is featuring a Cinderella piece done by ONE OF MY FAVORITE ARTISTS EVER - Mary Blair. The ‘lesson learned’ piece features the story of the six swans.

I am going to try and be more consistent with these! It started off as a daily exercise, faded for a bit, then I’m trying to start it again.

Another brain break trying to figure out the protagonist of my story ‘Stitchery’. She seriously needs a new do as a superhero. I’m debating whether to give her the long flowing hair as a hero, and then she has different hairstyles as a civilian, or do I go for one of the bottom three below.

My comic Stitchery WILL live again after a two year hiatus. But in that two years the characters need a serious overhaul. These are some explorations. =)
